FUE Hair Restoration Process

What is FUE?

FUE, or follicular unit extraction, is a system for hair transplants that is minimally invasive and FDA approved. The system uses a small device to gently select, remove and transplant individual grafts. It allows individual follicle units to be extracted from a donor site typically the back of the patient’s head where hair follicles are genetically more resistant to hair loss. The individual follicle units are sorted and transplanted to area of thinning hair. FUE eliminates the need for surgery and unsightly scars that are common with the “strip” hair transplant. FUE uses pneumatic pressure or a “no touch” process to extract the follicles and implant the follicle units. The viability or success of each transplanted follicle unit is very high with an automated FUE system. The machine eliminates the need for handling the grafts with forceps, which can damage them, and the transection (damage) rate is extremely low. An FUE procedure is completed in the same amount of time as the surgical “strip” hair transplant, reducing the cost of an FUE transplant.
