How does a laser remove hair?
The laser emits a gentle beam of light that passes through the skin, to the hair follicle, where it is absorbed.
Upon absorption, the laser energy is transformed into heat, which can disable the follicle.
What type of laser is used ?
Our laser is Palomar Medilux and Starlux. StarLux produces the Highest Total Energy of any light-based aesthetic system currently in use, so it can deliver aesthetic treatments with unparalleled efficacy. High energy delivery is enhanced by Palomar’s patented Photon Recycling process, which uses mirrors within the StarLux handpiece to recapture the energy scattered during treatment and send it back to the target. Therefore, fewer treatments are needed to achieve the desired result.
In 1996, Palomar became the first light-based technology company to receive FDA clearance for Permanent Hair Reduction. Since then, they have continued to develop more powerful and effective technology to achieve the quickest possible hair clearance.
Pulsed Light hair removal works by emitting pulses of intense light into the hair follicles. The light is absorbed by the pigment in the follicles and converted to heat. The heat then loosens the hair and disables the cells responsible for growing new hair.
How do I know if I'm a good candidate for laser hair removal?
Generally speaking, if you are concerned about unwanted hair, you are probably a candidate for laser hair removal. The most dramatic results will occur for those with light skin and dark hair. But this is another area in which the TKS lasing process has also made a difference. The TKS lasing process now makes it possible for patients who may have not previously benefited from laser therapy to receive greater benefit from the procedure.
- Those with lighter hair and darker skin
Other factors can influence the treatment process, but are generally best evaluated and discussed in person.
Is the treatment painful?
Most patients describe the treatment as a series of slight pin pricks or rubber band snaps to the skin. The majority of patients tolerate this sensation without anesthetics. Within about 30 minutes of treatment, the area may become pink or red; this may last from a few hours to one day.
How long does it take?
Each laser pulse treats about a half inch area, which can contain ten or more hairs. The amount of time needed depends on the size of the area to be treated.
The lip usually takes less than one minute; other areas, such as the leg, may take significantly longer.
